The Schweizer Niederlaufhund is a short-legged, highly agile scenthound bred down from the larger Swiss Hound. They were specifically developed to hunt hare and fox at a slower pace so hunters could follow on foot. They are fiercely determined and possess a highly melodious voice.
The Small Swiss Hound is deeply affectionate, highly social, and wonderful with children. They are excellent, calm family dogs indoors. However, they are highly stubborn when tracking a scent and require a very secure, fenced yard. They need moderate daily exercise, and their short coat requires minimal grooming, though their ears must be checked weekly.
