Complete Guide to the St. Bernard

The St. Bernard is a giant, incredibly powerful, and profoundly gentle working dog famously bred by monks to rescue stranded travelers in the snowy Swiss Alps. They possess massive heads, a deeply soulful expression, and can have either a short or long, dense double coat.

Temperament and Care

The St. Bernard is the quintessential "gentle giant." They are exceptionally sweet-tempered, incredibly patient with children, and deeply devoted. Despite their massive size, they require only moderate exercise. However, they drool profusely, shed heavily, and their massive size means obedience training is mandatory while they are young. They are highly sensitive to heat.
