The Mastín Español is a giant, incredibly powerful, and profoundly courageous livestock guardian. Bred to protect sheep from wolves and bears in Spain, they are immensely heavy, fiercely independent, and possess a deep, booming bark that carries for miles.
The Spanish Mastiff is a highly serious working dog. They are deeply devoted to their family but possess overwhelming guarding instincts and are naturally highly suspicious of strangers. They require massive early socialization, an incredibly confident owner, and vast open spaces to patrol; they are not suited for apartments. Their heavy coat requires regular brushing.
