The Westfälische Dachsbracke is a short-legged, highly robust scenthound from Germany. Bred specifically to hunt hare and fox in dense brush where larger hounds could not maneuver, they are incredibly courageous, highly determined, and possess a remarkable sense of smell.
This breed is deeply affectionate and wonderfully calm indoors. However, they are highly independent trackers outdoors and will stubbornly ignore commands if they catch an interesting scent. They require moderate daily exercise and a highly secure yard. Their short, thick coat is exceptionally weather-resistant and requires only minimal grooming, though their ears must be checked weekly.
