The Dogue de Bordeaux, or French Mastiff, is a giant, incredibly powerful, and profoundly courageous guard dog. Instantly recognizable by their massive, deeply wrinkled head and striking fawn or mahogany coat, they were bred to guard estates and hunt wild boar.
The Dogue is incredibly loyal and famously sweet-tempered with its family, earning the nickname "the gentle giant." However, they possess overwhelming guarding instincts and are highly protective. They require massive early socialization, firm leadership, and moderate exercise. They drool profusely, shed heavily, and their deep facial wrinkles require daily cleaning to prevent infections.
