The King Charles Spaniel (often called the English Toy Spaniel) is an ancient, highly elegant toy breed. With their distinctive, deeply pushed-in face, domed head, and stunning, silky coat, they were bred exclusively to be the pampered, deeply affectionate lap dogs of British royalty.
The King Charles is the ultimate lap dog: intensely affectionate, incredibly quiet, and famously calm. They form an intense, clingy bond with their owner and cannot tolerate isolation. They require very little exercise, making them perfect for apartments. Their luxurious coat requires daily brushing, and their flat face makes them highly sensitive to extreme heat.
