The Smålandsstövare is a highly robust, incredibly resilient scenthound from Sweden. Often born with a naturally bobbed tail, they were bred to hunt hare and fox in the brutal, dense forests of Småland. They are highly intelligent, fiercely courageous, and possess exceptional stamina.
This breed is an intense, highly independent hunter. Indoors, they are calm, deeply affectionate, and highly loyal to their families. However, outdoors, their nose dictates their actions completely. They cannot be trusted off-leash and require an incredibly active owner who can provide massive amounts of daily running. Their short, dense coat is very easy to care for.
