Group :Spitz and primitive types Section : Nordic Watchdogs and Herders
The Swedish Lapphund is an ancient, highly energetic, and exceptionally intelligent spitz breed. Bred for centuries by the indigenous Sami people of Scandinavia to herd massive reindeer flocks, they possess a stunning, thick black double coat and an intensely vocal nature.
The "Lappie" is brilliantly smart, highly eager to please, and deeply devoted to its family. Because they were bred to control reindeer by barking constantly, they are intensely vocal and make exceptional watchdogs. They require vigorous daily exercise and advanced mental stimulation. Their thick coat blows out heavily twice a year, requiring intense brushing.
