The Pyrenean Mountain Dog (Great Pyrenees) is a giant, incredibly powerful, and profoundly courageous livestock guardian. Possessing a stunning, thick white double coat, they were bred to protect flocks from wolves and bears in the brutal winter conditions of the Pyrenees mountains.
The Great Pyrenees is surprisingly gentle and deeply affectionate with its family, especially children. However, their guarding instincts are profound and they are naturally nocturnal. They require massive early socialization to prevent severe aggression toward strangers. They are not suited for urban living and need vast space. Their thick double coat requires intense, regular brushing.
