The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a massive, fiercely powerful hound originally bred in Africa to track and hold lions at bay. Instantly recognizable by the distinctive ridge of backward-growing hair along their spine, they are highly athletic, brilliantly smart, and fiercely protective.
The Ridgeback is deeply devoted to its family but naturally highly suspicious of strangers. They are intensely independent thinkers who do not tolerate harsh training. Because of their massive size and profound prey drive, early socialization and firm leadership are critical. They require vigorous daily exercise. Their short, sleek coat is incredibly easy to groom.
