The Istarski Oštrodlaki Gonič is a rugged, highly resilient scenthound from Croatia. Unlike their smooth-coated cousins, they possess a harsh, wiry white-and-orange coat designed to protect them from the most brutal, thorny brush while tracking wild boar and fox.
This breed is a true working hound. They are deeply loyal to their handler but naturally suspicious of strangers and highly independent. They require an incredibly active owner who can provide vigorous daily exercise; without it, they become bored and highly destructive. Their harsh, wire coat requires weekly brushing and occasional hand-stripping.
