The Irish Wolfhound is the tallest of all dog breeds, a giant, incredibly powerful sight-hound originally bred to drag men off horseback and hunt wolves to extinction in Ireland. Despite their imposing, majestic size and harsh, wiry coat, they are famously known as gentle giants.
The Irish Wolfhound is deeply affectionate, exceptionally calm indoors, and very gentle with children. They have a surprisingly low energy level for a hound but still require a daily walk and space to sprint. Because of their massive size, obedience training is mandatory. They have a tragically short lifespan and require regular brushing.
