The Scottish Deerhound is a giant, highly elegant sight-hound, closely related to the Greyhound but larger and covered in a harsh, wiry coat. Bred to hunt massive red deer in the brutal Scottish Highlands, they possess immense speed, power, and an aristocratic, dignified bearing.
The Deerhound is exceptionally gentle, deeply affectionate, and surprisingly lazy indoors. They are wonderful family companions but possess a massive prey drive outdoors and will chase anything that runs. They require a daily opportunity to sprint in a highly secure, fenced area. Their harsh coat requires regular brushing and occasional hand-stripping.
