Group :Spitz and primitive types Section : Nordic Watchdogs and Herders
The Finnish Lapphund is an ancient, highly energetic, and exceptionally intelligent spitz breed. Bred for centuries by the indigenous Sami people to herd reindeer across brutal Arctic tundra, they possess a stunning, thick double coat and an intensely joyful demeanor.
The Lappie is brilliantly smart, highly eager to please, and deeply devoted to its family. Because they were bred to control reindeer by barking constantly, they are intensely vocal and make exceptional watchdogs. They require vigorous daily exercise and advanced mental stimulation. Their thick coat blows out heavily twice a year, requiring intense brushing.
