The Bergamasco is a highly intelligent, incredibly resilient flock guardian from the Italian Alps. Instantly recognizable by their extraordinary, heavily corded coat that resembles flat, wide dreadlocks, they were bred to withstand brutal freezing temperatures and wolf attacks.
The Bergamasco is an intensely loyal, highly protective working dog. They are deeply devoted to their family but naturally suspicious of strangers. They are independent thinkers who do not respond to repetitive obedience drills. Their unique corded coat requires very specialized, time-consuming care to keep the mats separated, though it does not shed.
