The Neapolitan Mastiff is a giant, incredibly massive, and profoundly intimidating guard dog from Italy. Recognizable by their astonishing amount of loose, heavily wrinkled skin and massive, pendulous lips, they were originally bred as fearsome gladiators and estate guardians.
The Mastino is deeply loyal and surprisingly gentle with its family, but possesses overwhelming guarding instincts. They are naturally highly suspicious of strangers and fiercely protective. They require massive early socialization, firm leadership, and moderate daily exercise. They drool profusely, shed heavily, and their deep facial wrinkles require daily cleaning to prevent severe infections.
