The Erdélyi Kopó is an ancient, highly resilient scenthound from Hungary. Bred by Hungarian nobility to hunt bear, wolf, and wild boar in the brutal, heavily forested Carpathian Mountains, they are fiercely courageous, highly independent, and possess incredible stamina.

Temperament and Care

This breed is an intense, fiercely independent hunter. Indoors, they are calm, deeply affectionate, and highly loyal to their families. However, outdoors, their nose dictates their actions completely. They cannot be trusted off-leash and require an incredibly active owner who can provide massive amounts of daily running. Their short, dense coat is very easy to care for.
