The Hokkaido is an ancient, highly primitive, and fiercely courageous Japanese spitz breed. Possessing a stunning, thick double coat and an intensely powerful build, they were bred to hunt massive, dangerous game like Yezo brown bears in brutal, freezing conditions.
The Hokkaido is a highly serious working dog. They are deeply loyal to their handler but possess an overwhelming prey drive and immense dog aggression. They require an incredibly experienced, firm owner and absolutely massive amounts of daily exercise. Their thick coat blows out heavily twice a year, requiring intense brushing.
