The Black Norwegian Elkhound is a highly energetic, intensely alert spitz breed used for hunting moose and bear. They are slightly smaller, much more agile, and significantly fiercer than their grey cousins, possessing a stunning, solid black double coat and boundless stamina.
The Black Elkhound is deeply loyal to its family, brilliantly smart, and highly independent. Because they were bred to hold game at bay by barking constantly, they are intensely vocal and make exceptional watchdogs. They require vigorous daily exercise and firm, consistent leadership. Their thick coat blows out heavily twice a year.
