The American Foxhound is a highly athletic, intensely driven scenthound and the quintessential pack hunter. Bred from English Foxhounds, they are slightly lighter, significantly faster, and possess a more melodic bay, bred to hunt foxes over vast distances alongside hunters on horseback.
The Foxhound is a true working dog, rarely kept solely as a pet. They are deeply pack-oriented and thrive with other dogs, but they are highly independent and notoriously stubborn. They require absolutely massive amounts of daily running in secure areas; otherwise, they become highly destructive. Their short coat is very low maintenance.
