The Chinese Shar-Pei is an ancient, highly unique, and fiercely independent guard dog. Instantly recognizable by their incredible amount of loose, heavily wrinkled skin, tiny triangular ears, and unique blue-black tongue, they were originally bred for dog fighting and guarding.
The Shar-Pei is intensely devoted to its family but famously aloof, highly independent, and naturally suspicious of strangers. They are fiercely protective and require massive early socialization to prevent severe aggression. They are surprisingly lazy indoors. Their unique, bristly coat and deep skin wrinkles require specialized, daily cleaning to prevent chronic, severe infections.
