The Kooikerhondje is a highly intelligent, intensely agile, and deeply affectionate spaniel-type dog from the Netherlands. Bred specifically to lure ducks into traps (decoy dogs) using their striking, highly feathered orange-and-white tail, they are incredibly robust water retrievers.
The Kooikerhondje is deeply devoted to its family but naturally highly suspicious of strangers and other dogs. They are brilliant problem-solvers that require firm, consistent training and massive early socialization. They possess boundless energy and absolutely require vigorous daily exercise. Their beautiful, feathered coat requires regular brushing.
