The Shikoku Ken is a highly primitive, intensely energetic, and brilliantly smart Japanese spitz breed. Visually resembling a smaller, more wolf-like Akita, they were bred to hunt boar in the steep, brutal terrain of the Shikoku mountains. They are highly agile and fiercely determined.
The Shikoku is deeply devoted to its family but is highly independent and naturally suspicious of strangers. They possess absolutely boundless energy and an overwhelming prey drive. They require an incredibly active owner who can provide massive amounts of daily running and firm leadership. Their thick double coat requires regular, thorough brushing.
