The Gordon Setter is the largest and most heavily built of the setter breeds, originating from Scotland. Recognizable by their stunning black-and-tan coat and noble expression, they were bred specifically to hunt gamebirds in the brutal, heavy cover of the Scottish Highlands. They possess immense stamina and a rugged build.
Gordons are deeply loyal, highly intelligent, and somewhat more protective than other setters. They mature very slowly, remaining puppy-like for years. Because they are bred to hunt all day, they require massive amounts of vigorous daily exercise; a simple walk will not suffice. Their beautiful coat requires regular brushing to prevent tangles and remove field debris.
