Complete Guide to the Swedish Vallhund

The Swedish Vallhund is an ancient, highly spirited herding spitz with a history dating back to the Vikings. Recognizable by their short legs, long bodies, and wolf-like coloration, they are incredibly agile and were bred to herd cattle by nipping at their heels and quickly dodging kicks.

Temperament and Care

Vallhunds are brilliantly smart, intensely energetic, and famously cheerful. They love having a job to do and excel in agility and advanced obedience. Because of their herding instincts, they may try to herd running children or pets. They are vocal watchdogs with a thick double coat that requires regular brushing, especially during heavy seasonal shedding.
