The Briquet Griffon Vendéen is a medium-sized, highly spirited scenthound from France. Bred down in size from the Grand Griffon to create a faster, more agile hunter, they are famously courageous and possess immense stamina, designed to hunt hare and wild boar through thick brush.
The Briquet is intensely energetic, brilliantly smart, and notoriously independent. They are exceptional family dogs when their massive exercise needs are met, but they will follow their nose for miles if unleashed. They require firm, patient training and a highly secure yard. Their rough, wiry coat requires regular brushing to prevent matting from field debris.
