The Gascon Saintongeois is a large, incredibly powerful scenthound known for its majestic appearance and remarkably deep, booming voice. Originating in France, they were developed to hunt large game like deer and wild boar in packs, possessing unparalleled scenting ability and massive stamina.
This breed is calm, highly aristocratic, and deeply affectionate in the home, provided they receive massive amounts of daily exercise. They are highly pack-oriented and require confident, consistent leadership. Because their nose rules their brain, off-leash walking in unsecured areas is highly dangerous. Their sleek coat is easy to care for, but their long, pendulous ears require regular cleaning to prevent infections.
