The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is a massive, ancient scenthound from France, instantly recognizable by its stunning mottled blue coat and incredibly long, folded ears. Bred to hunt wolves, bears, and boars in massive packs, they are immensely powerful, fiercely determined, and possess a legendary sense of smell.
Despite their imposing size and booming voice, the Grand Bleu is famously gentle, highly affectionate, and surprisingly calm indoors. They are deeply pack-oriented and do not tolerate isolation well. They require long, vigorous daily walks to maintain their muscular build. Their short coat is low maintenance, but their massive, heavy ears require weekly cleaning to prevent severe ear infections.
