The Griffon Bleu de Gascogne is a rugged, highly resilient scenthound that combines the exceptional scenting ability of the Blue Gascony hounds with the tough, wire-haired coat of a Griffon. Bred to hunt wild boar in brutal terrain, they are fiercely courageous, highly determined, and exceptionally tough.
This breed is a highly serious, incredibly independent working dog. They are deeply loyal to their handler but can be aloof with strangers. They demand an intensely active owner who can provide massive amounts of daily running; without a job to do, they become highly destructive. Their harsh, wiry coat requires regular brushing and occasional hand-stripping.
