The Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen (GBGV) is a rugged, short-legged, wire-haired scenthound bred in France to hunt hare and boar. Don't let their short stature fool you; they are incredibly fast, fiercely courageous, and possess massive stamina, designed to push through the thickest, thorniest brush.
The GBGV is famously described as a "happy hound." They are intensely joyful, highly social, and deeply affectionate with their families. However, they are brilliantly smart and notoriously stubborn. They require firm, consistent training and highly secure fencing. Their rough, shaggy coat requires weekly brushing and regular grooming to prevent painful matting.
