The Basset Artésien Normand is a highly elegant, short-legged scenthound from France. Lighter and more agile than the English Basset Hound, they were bred to hunt small game in dense cover. They possess incredibly long, luxurious ears and a beautiful, soulful expression.
This breed is deeply affectionate, exceptionally gentle, and famously calm indoors. They are excellent family dogs that bond intensely with children. However, they are highly independent trackers outdoors and will stubbornly ignore commands if they catch an interesting scent. They require moderate daily exercise, and their heavy ears must be cleaned weekly to prevent deep infections.
