The Bernese Mountain Dog is a giant, incredibly powerful, and stunningly beautiful working dog from the Swiss Alps. Instantly recognizable by their thick, silky tricolor coat, they were originally bred to pull heavy carts, herd cattle, and serve as versatile, robust farm dogs.
Berners are famously gentle giants. They are deeply affectionate, incredibly sweet-tempered, and exceptionally patient with children. Despite their massive size, they are remarkably sensitive and eager to please. They require moderate daily exercise, but their thick coat requires intense, regular brushing, and they are notoriously prone to severe health issues and a short lifespan.
