Training Your Greater Swiss Mountain Dog

The "Swissy" is a large, heavily boned draft dog. They are eager to please, incredibly strong, and mature very slowly compared to other breeds.

Key Training Tips:

• Patience with Maturity: They retain their puppy-like mentality for up to three years. Be incredibly patient and keep training sessions short and fun.
• Drafting Work: They were bred to pull heavy carts. Teaching them to pull a small wagon or sled is the ultimate way to fulfill their working instincts.
• Socialization: While generally friendly, early exposure to different sounds and people ensures they do not become overly timid adults.

They are deeply devoted, surprisingly agile for their size, and respond wonderfully to positive, food-based training.
