Training Your Great Pyrenees

The Great Pyrenees is a massive flock guardian bred to work independently in the mountains. They are fiercely independent and notoriously stubborn.

Key Training Tips:

• Manage Expectations: They were not bred to take commands. They operate on their own time and will often ignore obedience drills completely.
• Nocturnal Barking: They are nocturnal guardians that bark at any perceived threat. Teaching the "quiet" command is difficult but absolutely necessary.
• Leash Safety: If they decide to wander off to "patrol," they will ignore your calls. They must always be leashed in unsecured areas.

They are intensely protective and gentle with their families, but require an owner who understands their primitive guarding instincts.
