Training Your Whippet

The Whippet looks like a smaller Greyhound and shares their incredible speed and gentle, sensitive nature. They are highly affectionate and somewhat easier to train than other sight-hounds.

Key Training Tips:

• Positive Reinforcement: They are emotionally fragile and will tremble if scolded harshly. Use only positive, upbeat, and gentle training methods.
• Prey Drive: They are visually stimulated hunters. They must be kept on a leash in open areas, as they will chase small animals relentlessly.
• House-Training: They dislike cold and wet weather, which can make house-training difficult in winter. Be persistent and use puppy pads if necessary.

They are deeply devoted lap dogs indoors and thrilling athletes outdoors, making them wonderful, quiet companions.
