The Chow Chow is an ancient, highly dignified, and fiercely independent breed. They possess a cat-like personality and are notoriously aloof.

Key Training Tips:

• Intense Socialization: They are naturally protective and highly suspicious of strangers. Massive, positive early socialization is required to ensure they are safe around guests.
• Respect Their Independence: They are not eager to please. They will often refuse to repeat a command if they don’t see the point. Use extreme patience.
• No Harshness: They will react aggressively to physical punishment. Use firm, calm consistency and highly motivating rewards.

They bond intensely with one or two people and make excellent, quiet guardians when managed by an experienced owner.
