Training Your Pekingese

The Pekingese is an ancient, highly dignified toy breed originally owned exclusively by Chinese royalty. They are famously stubborn and independent.

Key Training Tips:

• Respect Their Dignity: They view themselves as royalty and will not be bossed around. Use extreme patience, gentle persuasion, and high-value rewards.
• Keep it Cool: Because of their flat faces and heavy coats, they overheat very quickly. Never train outdoors in warm weather.
• Leash Training: They have a rolling, slow gait. They will not go jogging with you, but basic loose-leash walking is still required.

They bond intensely with one person and make excellent, quiet lap dogs when treated with mutual respect.
