Training Your Shiba Inu

The Shiba Inu is a bold, highly independent, and notoriously stubborn ancient Japanese breed. They behave very much like cats and demand respect.

Key Training Tips:

• Never Off-Leash: They possess a massive prey drive and will bolt after small animals. Flawless recall is nearly impossible; never trust them off-leash in open areas.
• The "Shiba Scream": They are highly dramatic and will scream if forced to do something they dislike (like nail trimming). Desensitize them to handling very early.
• Positive Motivation: They do not care about pleasing you. You must make training highly rewarding with top-tier treats to convince them to participate.

They are deeply loyal but require an experienced owner who understands and respects their fiercely independent nature.
