Training Your Mastiff

The English Mastiff is a dog of colossal size and bone. Despite their intimidating bulk, they are extraordinarily docile, sensitive, and eager to please.

Key Training Tips:

• Gentle Persuasion: They are emotionally fragile and will simply lie down and refuse to move if spoken to harshly. Use soft, encouraging tones.
• Protect Their Joints: Because of their immense weight, avoid excessive exercise or stair-climbing during their first two years to protect their growing joints.
• Leash Control: A 200-pound dog cannot be controlled by force. You must master loose-leash walking and basic obedience while they are small puppies.
