The Canaan Dog is an ancient, primitive breed from the Middle East. They are highly intelligent, fiercely independent, and highly reactive to new situations.

Key Training Tips:

• Build Trust: Because they are a primitive breed, they do not automatically trust humans. Training requires immense patience and building a strong, respectful bond.
• Intense Socialization: They are naturally highly suspicious and protective. Expose them safely to hundreds of people and places to prevent fearful aggression.
• Keep it Varied: They bore very easily and will simply walk away from repetitive drills. Make training highly rewarding and unpredictable.

They are excellent, vocal watchdogs but require an owner who understands their deeply ingrained survival instincts.
