Training Your Poitevin

The Poitevin is an incredibly athletic, tirelessly energetic French hound. They are bred almost exclusively for pack hunting and require massive exercise.

Key Training Tips:

• Exercise is Mandatory: You cannot train a Poitevin if they have pent-up energy. They require miles of running daily before they will focus on obedience.
• Pack Dynamics: They thrive in the company of other dogs. Training them alongside a well-trained dog can speed up their learning process.
• Leash Safety: They are incredibly fast and driven by scent. Off-leash training is extremely difficult and often unsafe outside of fenced areas.

They are highly affectionate with their families but are generally best suited for rural environments or very active, experienced owners.
