Training Your Basenji

Known as the "barkless dog," the Basenji is incredibly smart, fiercely independent, and notoriously stubborn. They groom themselves like cats and share a similar temperament.

Key Training Tips:

• Be More Interesting: They bore quickly. You must make training highly engaging and rewarding to convince them to participate.
• Escape Artists: They are brilliant escape artists and incredibly fast runners. Yard boundaries must be highly secure, and recall training is vital.
• Destructive Chewing: If bored, they will destroy your home. Provide massive amounts of exercise and indestructible chew toys.

They do not respond to force. Train them with patience, consistency, and a deep understanding of their primitive nature.
