The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is a massive, incredibly powerful, and highly robust working dog from the Swiss Alps. The largest of the four Swiss Mountain breeds, they were bred to pull heavy carts and guard farms. They possess a striking, short tricolor coat and immense strength.
The "Swissy" is a deeply loyal, highly protective, and surprisingly agile giant. They are excellent family dogs but mature very slowly, retaining a clumsy, puppy-like demeanor for years. Because of their massive size and strength, early obedience training is critical. They require moderate daily exercise, and their short coat is very easy to maintain.
