The Gos d'Atura Català is a highly energetic, exceptionally intelligent, and deeply devoted herding dog from Spain. Possessing a distinctive, shaggy, weather-resistant coat, they were bred to herd sheep across the rugged Pyrenees mountains in brutal conditions.
The Catalan Sheepdog is intensely loyal to its family but naturally suspicious of strangers, making them excellent watchdogs. They are brilliant problem-solvers that absolutely require a job to do, such as advanced agility or herding trials. Without vigorous daily exercise, they become highly destructive. Their shaggy coat requires regular, thorough brushing to prevent severe matting.
