The Briard is a massive, fiercely protective, and highly intelligent herding dog from France. Covered in a profuse, shaggy coat that falls over their eyes, they were bred to protect flocks from wolves and drive cattle. They possess double dewclaws on their hind legs.
The Briard is famously described as "a heart of gold wrapped in fur." They are deeply devoted to their family but possess profound guarding instincts and are naturally suspicious of strangers. They require massive early socialization, vigorous daily exercise, and an experienced owner. Their stunning, shaggy coat requires intense, daily brushing to prevent severe matting.
