The Jämthund, or Swedish Elkhound, is a massive, incredibly powerful spitz breed originally bred to hunt moose and bear in the brutal forests of Sweden. They are highly athletic, fiercely courageous, and possess a stunning, wolf-like appearance with a thick double coat.
The Jämthund is a highly serious, intensely driven working dog. They are deeply loyal to their handler but possess an overwhelming prey drive and are highly independent thinkers. They require massive amounts of vigorous daily exercise and a highly active owner. Their thick double coat blows out heavily twice a year, requiring intense daily brushing during shedding season.
