Training Your Cairn Terrier

Famous as "Toto" from The Wizard of Oz, the Cairn Terrier is a tough, alert, and highly active little dog that requires confident training.

Key Training Tips:

• Prey Drive Management: Bred to hunt vermin, they will chase anything that moves. Teach a strong "leave it" command and always keep them leashed in unsecured areas.
• Barking Control: Cairns are vocal watchdogs. Train the "quiet" command early so they do not become nuisance barkers.
• Digging Instincts: They love to dig. Instead of punishing them, provide a dedicated sandbox where they are allowed to dig freely.

They respond wonderfully to clicker training and love learning new tricks, provided the rewards are highly motivating.
