The English Toy Terrier is a miniature replica of a working terrier. They are alert, fast, and highly trainable, though they can be willful.

• Positive Motivation: Because of their small size and sensitive nature, harsh corrections will deeply frighten them. Use praise and small treats exclusively.
• Socialization: They can be wary of strangers and prone to "Small Dog Syndrome" if overly sheltered. Expose them to the world early on.
• Recall Practice: They are very fast and love to chase. Practice recall heavily in secure areas to build a reliable response.

They are excellent candidates for miniature agility courses, which provide great physical and mental exercise.
