Group :Terriers Section : Large and medium sized Terriers
The Lakeland Terrier is a small, incredibly sturdy, and fiercely courageous working terrier from England. Bred to hunt foxes in the rugged Lake District, they possess a harsh, wiry coat, incredibly long legs for their size, and a highly alert, confident demeanor.
The Lakeland is a quintessential terrier: bossy, highly intelligent, and intensely driven. They are deeply affectionate with their families but naturally aloof with strangers and fiercely aggressive toward rodents. They possess boundless energy and require vigorous daily exercise. Their harsh, wiry coat does not shed much but requires regular hand-stripping to maintain its protective texture.
