The Sussex Spaniel is a massive, incredibly robust, and highly unique flushing spaniel. Recognized by their long, low-slung body and stunning, rich golden-liver coat, they were bred in England to push through the thickest, most punishing clay and underbrush while vocalizing to alert hunters.
The Sussex is famously calm, deeply affectionate, and highly dignified. They are much slower and more deliberate than other spaniels. They make exceptional, gentle family dogs but are notoriously stubborn and possess a surprisingly loud, booming bark. They require only moderate daily exercise. Their stunning coat requires regular brushing to prevent tangles.
